Join local, up-and-coming saxophonist Daniel Garel for an evening of jazz music at Leatherhead Theatre’s Mezz bar. This new concert series boasts performances from some of Surrey’s finest jazz musicians, and will feature classic and unforgettable compositions from the great American songbook, mixed with contemporary pieces composed by members of the band.
Having recently graduated from Durham University with a degree in musicology and having spent a year studying jazz saxophone at McGill University in Montreal, Daniel’s playing reflects the plethora of music that has always been present throughout his life – from jazz through to dub and contemporary classical to electronic music. As a saxophonist, Daniel’s playing is inspired by altoists such as Lee Konitz, Joe Harriot and more recently, players such as David Binney and Ben Wendel. Daniel often plays as a deputy in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Great Britain, plays lead alto for the Jazz Plus Ensemble and has played sell-out shows at Pizza Express Jazz Club as the lead altoist and musical director of the Durham University Big Band. He’s played at a variety of venues internationally and across the UK including Upstairs Jazz Bar, Montreal, The Jazz Bar, Edinburgh and Matt and Phreds, Manchester. He has also studied with the eminent Canadian saxophonist and composer, Christine Jensen, and Leeds-based saxophonist Joel Purnell.
Daniel is joined by pianist Jack Noké, who is currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, bassist Sebastian Maniura and drummer Callum Green.
Don’t miss out on the chance to experience live music in one of Surrey’s most unique and special buildings.
